The American University of Rome (AUR) is delighted to announce Bashir Elyas's appointment as the newest member of the Student Life team. An accomplished alumnus of AUR, Bashir brings a background rich in international development, cross-cultural insight, and a deep commitment to fostering student growth and development.
Bashir’s journey with AUR began when he pursued his International Relations and Global Politics degreeat the institution. His academic achievements were significantly enhanced through AUR's signature academic travel experiences, which included visits to international organizations in Geneva, NATO, and the EU Military Committee in Brussels. These experiences enhanced Bashir's understanding and involvement with his subject, but also instilled in him an ambition to enable others to access similar experiences.
Bashir's diverse background, shaped by his Egyptian heritage and life in Italy, gives him a unique perspective on cultural diversity—an essential element that aligns seamlessly with AUR's mission. His passion for international relations and bridging cultures resonates strongly with the objectives of the Student Life team, which strives to complement the academic mission of the University by promoting personal growth, leadership development, and multicultural competence among students.
In his own words, Bashir expresses a deep admiration for AUR’s values and a vision for his role within the Student Life team: "I aspire to build what I call 'The Bridge,' a platform that fosters collaboration, mutual understanding, and personal and community growth among students, staff, and the Student Life Office." This initiative reflects Bashir's commitment to creating an inclusive and engaging environment where students can thrive both academically and socially.
Bashir's dedication to student life is also inspired by his admiration for Malala Yousafzai, particularly her belief in the transformative power of education. He is guided by her words, “One child, one teacher, one pen, and one book can change the world,” a philosophy he strives to embody in his work and daily life.
As Bashir joins the Student Life team, AUR is confident that his unique experiences, insights, and passion will significantly enhance the support and opportunities available to our students. His vision will undoubtedly contribute to making AUR an even more vibrant and enriching place for all.
