This year's Carlucci Forum participants, drawing from their diverse scholarly backgrounds, will discuss Social Enterprise in the Age of Nationalism; exploring how citizens from various parts of the world are engaging politically, culturally, and economically to rising nationalism, threats from a globalized economy, and climate change.

Kyla Fullenwider, , Visiting Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at AUR

Kyla Fullenwider is an entrepreneur, educator, and social designer. She is faculty in the Products of Design department at the School of Visual Arts and in the Design Leadership MBA program at Johns Hopkins and the Maryland Institute of Art.

Kyla is also a Presidential Innovation Fellow for President Barack Obama. This highly-competitive program pairs talented, diverse technologists and innovators with top civil-servants and change-makers working at the highest levels of the federal government to tackle some our nation’s biggest challenges. These teams of government experts and private-sector doers take a user-centric approach to issues at the intersection of people, processes, products, and policy to achieve lasting impact.

Previous work includes directing Garden in Transit, the City of New York’s largest and most expansive social design initiative to date, developing the first crowd sourced CSR program with GOOD Magazine and Pepsico, and creating Etsy’s first annual Values & Impact report. She’s designed and implemented other programs and initiatives with the City of Los Angeles, the City of Baltimore, the Cooper Hewitt Design MuseumUCLA, and the Legacy Foundation. She is also a Cofounder and board member of New York based Imperative and SOLA Ventures.

Some of her work has been featured in the NY TimesLA TimesNY Magazine, and Fast Company and in case studies authored by the Harvard School of Business and the Annie E. Casey Foundation. She is also a former Fellow in Social Design at the Maryland Institute College of Art. In 2015 she was named in the ‘Top 100 Creatives Making an Impact’ by Origin Magazine and was a Google Launchpad Mentor. Her writing has been published by Metropolis MagazineNext CityGOOD Magazine, and the Outpost Journal. And she speaks and lectures at a range of institutions including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Art Institute of ChicagoColumbia University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Ashoka Future Forum among others.
 

Matt Qvrotrup, Professor of Applied Political Science and International Relations at Coventry University

Matt Qvrotrup is an expert on comparative constitutional engineering and European Politics. Professor Qvortrup's book Angela Merkel: Europe's Most Influential Leader (, was described by Kirkus Reviews as "necessary reading for anyone who wants to broaden his or her perspective on the world today." Awarded the PSA Prize in 2013 for his research on ‘Terrorism and Political Science’, he served as a Specialist Advisor to the House of Commons Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee.

He has previously worked as member of President Obama’s Special Envoy Team in Africa (2009-2010). Before his career as an academic Dr Qvortrup served as Head of the Gun Crime Section in the British Home Office (2002-2004) and before that as a Special Advisor to the Home Secretary (Minister for the Interior)

Professor Qvortrup earned his doctorate in Politics at Brasenose College, University of Oxford in 2000. Also a qualified lawyer, he holds a Diploma from the College of Law, London.

Laura Prota, Assistant Professor of Economics at AUR

Laura Prota holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Macquarie University in Sydney, a Master’s degree in Economic Development and Cooperation from the University of Bologna and an undergraduate degree (magna cum laude) from the University of Federico II in Naples.   She had a post-doctoral fellowship form the Faculty of Economics and Statistics, University of Salerno from 2012-2015. 

Specialized in social network analysis and rural development, she adopts a relational approach to study the configuration of agricultural production and innovation systems under globalization. She published on issues related to the specificity of Southeast Asian market transition with a particular focus on place and path dependent trajectories of development, land markets, persistent poverty, gender and labor rights. Laura also published methodological articles on network analysis aiming at identifying methods to identify the structural evolutionary patterns of economic systems. 

Beyond her academic interests, she worked as consultant and project coordinator in several rural development projects in Southeast Asia.
